SEAL Team is the new drama on CBS that follows the lives of an elite unit of Navy SEALs in combat and at home. The star of the show is David Boreanaz (Bones, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel) who plays Tier One special ops leader Jason Hayes, who is seeing a therapist regarding his “combat stress.” The character of Jason is based on Mark Owen, an alias for a Navy SEAL Tier One leader who has written two books including one about the mission that killed Osama Bin Laden.

The executive producers of SEAL Team spoke about the show and Owen on-camera with Drama Quarterly. Ben Cavell (Sneaky Pete, Homeland, Justified) said of Owen: “He’s not dark and brooding, he’s charming and he’s smart and he’s funny.” Cavell adds, “He understands he’s been a part of these very important things…he’s lost a lot of people, he’s got 41 names…” and that’s when Boreanaz interrupts the interview to hand exec producer Sarah Timberman a bottle of champagne, and to give her a kiss. Cavell remarks, “Oh, this is the most appropriate moment…” Watch the video. Boreanaz walks in around the 11-minute mark. SEAL Team premieres Wednesday, September 27 at 9pm on CBS.
