In the Season 7 premiere of Game of Thrones, “Dragonstone,” while Jon (Kit Harington) organizes the defense of the North and Cersei (Lena Headey) seeks to even the odds, Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) comes home and deals with Euron Greyjoy, younger brother of the late Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide) who has named himself King of the Iron Islands (against the will of his nephew Theon and niece Yara). Euron is the one who lost his mind during a storm on the Jade Sea and then cut out the tongues of those who tied him to the mast to keep him from jumping overboard.
Euron Greyjoy is portrayed by Pilou Asbaek. Americans will recognize the Danish-born actor from his roles in the films Ben-Hur (Pontius Pilate) and Lucy with Scarlett Johansson (Richard), and on the TV series The Borgias (Paolo Orsini), among others. Asbaek will appear next on the big screen opposite Kirsten Dunst in Woodshock, a thriller to be released in September. Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9pm on HBO.
