Prior to his performance on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, Adkins told Taste of Country, “The Fourth of July is all about declaring our independence. We don’t depend on anybody else in this world. We make our own way and we have our own freedom, and it is not subject to anybody or anything.” In the video below, Adkins talks specifically about the song “Still a Soldier”, which he says “deals with in a subtle way with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), which is a problem we all need to be mindful of. It’s an on-going thing.” A Capitol Fourth will air on July 4 at 8pm on PBS.
