The Below Deck Mediterranean episode “Swing Shift” shines a harsh light on deckhand Malia. In one scene she’s reprimanded by chef Adam for leading him and bosun Wes on at the same time. When Adam shows deckhand Max the flirty texts Malia sent him in Croatia, Malia admits that she’s the one who got herself in the position she’s in.
Speaking of positions, after Malia is promoted to lead deckhand, she confronts deckhand Bobby. She believes he’s become competitive with her ever since the promotion. Bobby denies it, “I’m not being competitive” but is quick to point out that he has more experience. Malia defends herself and her new position by saying she was given the job “due to my initiative.” She tells Bobby to “let it go” and tries to teach him a lesson by yelling at him: “You can’t become a leader by being a dick.” Hmm. Below Deck Mediterranean airs Tuesdays at 9pm on Bravo.
