Carlos De Antonis is the opera singer from Buenos Aires, Argentina who is competing on America’s Got Talent, Season 12. He has been a promising star since the early 1990s when he launched his career in musical theater (Dracula the Musical, The Hunchback of Notre Dame). But a severe car accident landed De Antonis in the hospital for almost a year and a half. He had two broken legs that were at risk of being amputated. Instead “they put 19 pieces of metal into my legs,” says De Antonis in the video below. He can’t do everything he used to on stage “but I continue to fight” he says.

In the video, De Antonis says he makes a living as a Lyft driver in Los Angeles. But he still has friends in high places. That’s Oscar-nominated, Grammy Award-winning music producer Walter Afanasieff who’s at the piano with De Antonis in the video. Afanasieff is best known for producing “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion (Titanic) and many Mariah Carey songs. America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
