In the Below Deck Mediterranean episode ‘Who’s the Boss?’, we meet the new leader Captain Sandy Yawn, the first female captain on the Below Deck franchise. Sandy grew up in Florida where she later became a certified SCUBA diver and crew member on a boat. To learn about the yachting business, she went to Maritime Professional Training school in Fort Lauderdale and then got her Master of Oceans license from the US Coast Guard, according to Bravo. She’s been in the business now for 27 years and, according to her, “I don’t tolerate a lot of crap.”
Captain Sandy has developed a tough exterior after “being chased down by pirates” and surviving “a life-threatening motorcycle accident, and even cancer.” In the premiere episode they set sail for Croatia. Below Deck Mediterranean airs Tuesdays at 9pm on Bravo.
