The 48 Hours episode ‘The DNA of a Killer’ investigates the brutal 1996 murder of 18-year-old Angie Dodge in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Dodge was raped and stabbed to death in her apartment. Police collected DNA evidence including a semen sample but still cannot find a match. Though no match was made, a suspect named Christopher Tapp was convicted of the rape and murder of Angie Dodge.
In March 2017, Tapp was released from prison after serving more than 20 years for the crimes. A recent DNA test has excluded Tapp from being at the scene of the crime — Dodge’s apartment. The Idaho Innocence Project says “Tapp falsely confessed — after 40-plus hours of questions and polygraphs – in exchange for immunity.” Angie’s mother, Carol Dodge, had worked with the organization and Tapp’s mother Vera to free Chris Tapp. The first thing Tapp did when released was to hug both women. 48 Hours airs Saturdays at 10pm on CBS.
