In the Grey’s Anatomy episode ‘Till I Hear It From You’, while Maggie’s mom Diane (LaTanya Richardson Jackson) returns to the hospital, the other doctors meet an elderly couple named Elsie and Lewis. Elsie Clatch is portrayed by 87-year-old June Squibb (Sheldon’s Meemaw on The Big Bang Theory). Squibb is an Oscar-nominated actress best known for the films Nebraska, About Schmidt and Scent of a Woman.
Lewis Clatch is portrayed by 92-year-old Hal Holbrook. Hal Holbrook is known for his TV roles on Sons of Anarchy (Nate Madock), Evening Shade (Evan Evans), Designing Women with his wife Dixie Carter (Reese Watson), and in the TV mini-series North and South (Abraham Lincoln). Holbrook is also recognized for his roles in the films Into the Wild (Ron Franz), Lincoln (Preston Blair) and Wall Street (Lou Mannheim), among others. Hal Holbrook won a Tony Award in 1966 for his performance in “Mark Twain Tonight.” Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8pm on ABC.
