Artist and model Frances Bean Cobain honored her late father Kurt Cobain with a hand-written note she shared on Instagram. Frances Bean, who goes by the handle The Space Witch, is a fan of the supernatural and “voodoo vibes” as she says. She hardly had a chance to know her father while he was alive — but she was held by him and as she notes, he gave her the “GIFT of Life.”
Kurt Cobain died at the height of his powers and his fame when he was just 27 in 1994, joining the sad and glorious pantheon of rock stars who left the world too soon. Frances Bean’s letter took just 25 words to express exactly what any person might want their child to say about them, not just a rock star’s child. Indeed, there is no inkling in the note that the man was famous or accomplished, only that he is loved. There is not a word missing or an extra word in Frances Bean’s perfect gratitude: “Today would’ve been your 50th birthday. You are loved and you are missed. Thank you for giving me The GIFT of Life. Forever your daughter,” Frances Bean Cobain.
