The new FX TV series Taboo is about adventurer James Keziah Delaney (Tom Hardy) who returns to 1814 England after spending 10 years in Africa. He has come to claim a legacy left to him by his father who was recently poisoned. In the second episode, while assembling “his league of the damned,” James’ plan to build a shipping empire is threatened by Sir Stuart Strange, Chairman of East India Company.
Sir Stuart Strange is portrayed by Jonathan Pryce. Americans recognize the English actor from his roles on Game of Thrones (High Sparrow), and in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies (Governor Weatherby Swann), the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies (Elliot Carver), The Age of Innocence (Riviere), Barbarians at the Gate (Henry Kravis), Glengarry Glen Ross (James Lingk), Jumpin’ Jack Flash (Jack), and in the cult classic Brazil (Sam Lowry), among many others. Taboo airs Tuesdays at 10pm on FX.
