Retired Illinois police sergeant Drew Peterson was convicted for the 2004 murder of his third wife Kathleen Savio. In 2013, he was sentenced to 38 years in prison. (He is also a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife Stacy Peterson who has never been found.) From behind bars, Peterson received another 40 years after he was found guilty of attempting to have the prosecutor who put him in jail — Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow – murdered.
In August 2016, Peterson’s lawyer filed a petition to reverse a police pension board’s decision to stop his annual $79,000 pension payout to his family. (Peterson was a police officer for nearly 30 years.) The board argues that Peterson “used his specialized police training, skills and abilities to plan and commit the murder.” Peterson’s eldest son Stephen Peterson had been using the pension payouts to help raise and support his younger half-siblings. Stephen Peterson will be featured on Monster in My Family which airs Tuesdays at 10pm on LMN.
