Apple is celebrating Christmas with a heartwarming TV commercial titled “Frankie’s Holiday.” A character that resembles Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein‘s monster orders two Christmas bulbs (one red, one green) to screw into the bolts sticking out of his neck. When he walks into the town square where everyone is celebrating Christmas, he screws on the bulbs, presses “Home for the Holidays’ on his iPhone, and then tries to sing the quiet carol. When the green bulb goes out, a little girl approaches him to tighten it and then the whole village sings along with “Frankie” which brings the big guy to tears. The tagline is: “Open your heart to everyone.”
Frankie is portrayed by 6’8” tall Brad Garrett — wearing a lot of make-up. Those eyes are unmistakable. Garrett is best known for his roles on Everybody Loves Raymond (Robert Barone), ‘Til Death with Joely Fisher (Eddie Stark), The Crazy Ones (Gordon Lewis), and Fargo (Joe Bulo). Or you might recognize his voice from the Night at the Museum movies (Easter Island Head), Finding Nemo (Bloat), and Ratatouille (Gaston), among others.
