Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner is interviewed on Oprah: Where Are They Now? He’s best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on one of the most popular American TV shows of all time, The Cosby Show. Warner says he was in the fifth grade when he auditioned. He remembers the day (a Monday) clearly. For the audition he acted like “a smart-aleck, precocious” Theo which had everyone in the room smiling “except Mr. Cosby.”
Cosby asked Warner if he talked that way with his father, Warner said no. Cosby gave him another chance to come up with another attitude. “I did a 180-degree turn,” says Warner. Later the director of the show told Warner he got the job because he knew how to take direction. Oprah: Where Are They Now? airs Saturdays at 10pm on OWN.
