In the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode ‘Rape Interrupted’, NYPD Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) reunites with her first partner Patrick Griffin — but it’s not under happy circumstances. Sergeant Griffin’s son has been accused of rape and Griffin makes Benson chose between loyalty and duty. When Benson says, “Your son assaulted an unconscious girl. This isn’t going away,” Griffin says, “You are looking at the fight of your life. You and your whole department,” he threatens.
Griffin is portrayed by Anthony Edwards. He’s known for his roles on Billions (Judge Whit Wilcox), ER (Dr. Mark Greene), and Northern Exposure (Mike Monroe), among others. Edwards is also well recognized for his roles in the films Zodiac (Inspector William Armstrong), Top Gun (Goose), and the Revenge of the Nerds movies (Gilbert). Fun fact, Hargitay played Edwards’ love interest Cynthia Hopper on ER, Season 4 (1997-1998). Law & Order: SVU airs Wednesdays at 9pm on NBC.
