Pope Francis again spoke out against teaching gender identity in schools, fearing a slippery slope scenario with gender choice being “against nature.” The Pope referred to teaching gender identity in schools as “ideological colonization.”
Pope Francis has been praised for his openness regarding gay Catholics, saying in 2013 he was not in a position to “judge” if someone is gay and also wants to practice the religion. But gender “choice”, as the Pope qualifies it, is a bridge too far. He called that idea “terrible” earlier this year. The LGBT community generally holds that a gender identity is less chosen by a person than it is “identified.”
