On the Lifetime docu-series Gold Medal Families, the cameras follow young Olympic athletes on their way (they hope) to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. On the episode “Blood is Thicker Than Water,” while diver Steele Johnson continues to recover from a triceps injury, boxer Jajaira Gonzalez tries to lose weight before the Olympic Trials. (She’s a lightweight at 132 lbs.) “I love food so losing weight is especially hard,” says Gonzalez.
The Junior and Youth World Champion Gonzalez started boxing when she was 8 years old. Her two older brothers box “so I decided to try it.” Gold Medal Families airs Tuesdays at 10pm and 11pm on Lifetime.
