Moya Angela, the 32-year-old singer on America’s Got Talent, has been singing pretty much her whole life (25 years). Even though she’s performed with the national tour of The Lion King for nearly three years and in Dreamgirls at the Apollo (as Effie White), Angela says it was nerve-racking performing in front of Simon Cowell.
Angela auditioned for the Effie role in the 2006 movie Dreamgirls but that went to Jennifer Hudson, who Angela has since met and calls “a sweetheart.” Think Angela reminds Cowell of Hudson? Cowell famously dissed Hudson when she was contestant on Season 3 of American Idol…before she went on to win an Oscar for her role as Effie in Dreamgirls. America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8pm on NBC.
