As one incredulous fan put it on Facebook, “C’mon, before Meddle?” Legendary prog rock group Pink Floyd is releasing a box set of the band’s early music — the package will contain 27 discs and cost $700. The doubter quoted above is referring to the dates the Floyd material will draw from: 1965-72, the Syd Barrett years. That is, before most people — not that this is a bad thing — had ever heard of Pink Floyd. Of course that’s part of the appeal — it’s a collection for the insider’s insider, even if many of them have had bootleg access to much of the material already. Pink Floyd’s Meddle, btw, came out in 1971 — material from that era will be included. (Meddle alone will cost an Amazon searcher $149.99 on vinyl.)
But we get the fan’s point. Other fans just repeated the lyrics to “Money” in response — “money, it’s a crime.” Here are 27 famous Pink Floyd songs that will have to wait for the $1,000 box set that presumably comes after this. There are a lot more, of course.
