REO Speedwagon is best known for their 1981 hit “Take It On the Run” from their fifth album Hi Infidelity. It starts with the memorable line, “Heard it from a friend who…” REO Speedwagon continues to perform the song wherever they go. They’re currently touring with Def Leppard and Tesla this summer. And on the TV special “Greatest Hits” (1980-1985), they’ll perform the hit again with Pitbull and Enrique Iglesias who have created their own version of the song, “Messin’ Around.”
Kevin Cronin, lead singer of REO Speedwagon, says he first heard their version in his teenage daughter’s car. He describes it as “this funky, dark, kinda cool version…but soon morphs into a hip-hop groove and an entirely new song…and I am digging it.” KC said he heard Pitbull on an interview and says he found him “extremely hard working and likeable, so that makes his choice to combine our music with his even sweeter.” Greatest Hits airs Thursdays at 9pm on ABC.
