Pundits have long said that Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign is the ultimate reality show. But now Trump has started bringing his history as a successful reality TV host to his campaign verbatim. Reportedly under pressure to alter the tenor of his campaign now that he’s the presumptive GOP nominee, Trump said “You’re fired” to campaign manager Corey Lewandoski. “You’re fired” is a catchphrase Trump made famous on his shows The Apprentice and Celebrity Apprentice.
It’s hard to see what Lewandoski did to get kicked off the show — er, the campaign. He kept winning, a quality Trump professes to prize over all others. But with his firing, Lewandoski joins dozens of people Trump has fired with fanfare over the past decade, most recently his friend Geraldo Rivera. (Trump ultimately chose Leeza Gibbons over Rivera.) But the Geraldo example also proves that Lewandoski has plenty of options. If not another campaign, he can always go on Dancing with the Stars (as Geraldo did) after his Trump turn ended prematurely.
