In the Fresh Off the Boat Season 2 finale episode “Bring the Paint,” Louis’ (Randall Park) brother Gene blows into town and takes the family out to dinner. Gene picks out an an Orlando-themed restaurant where Mel Gibson filmed Lethal Weapon 3. Part of the décor includes Mel Gibson’s mullet. Over dinner, Gene delivers big news for the Huang family.
Gene is portrayed by Ken Jeong, who is the star of in his own sitcom Dr Ken. In addition to Dr. Ken, the former doctor turned comedian Jeong is known for his roles on Community (Ben Chang) and MADtv (various characters). Jeong is also recognized for his roles in The Hangover films (Mr. Chow), Transformers: Dark of the Moon (Jerry Wang), Zookeeper (Venom), and The Muppets (“Punch Teacher” Host). Or maybe you recognize Jeong’s voice from Bob’s Burgers (Dr. Yap), Penguins of Madagascar (Shot Fuse), or Despicable Me (Floyd). Fresh Off the Boat airs Tuesdays at 8:30pm on ABC.
