The thirteenth season of So You Think You Can Dance is all about kids. SYTYCD: The Next Generation features contestants between the ages of 8 and 13. Child star dancer Maddie Ziegler (Dance Moms, Sia music videos) will serve as a special judge with the adult judges Paula Abdul, Nigel Lythgoe, and Jason Derulo. One of the contestants is an old friend of Ziegler’s from Dance Moms — Sophia Lucia. Or maybe you recognize Sophia from breaking the Guinness World Record for consecutive pirouettes (55!) in 2013. See video below.
Sophia has been dancing for 11 years but she says ballet is relatively new to her. She’s been training in ballet for just nine months with the prestigious Master Ballet Academy in Arizona under the artistic direction of Slawomir Woźniak. SYTYCD’s Travis Wall recently gave a master class at the Academy, and gave Sophia a solo. So You Think You Can Dance airs Mondays at 8pm on FOX.
