For The Voice Live Finals, preschool teacher Hannah Huston took a chance and sang the classic Police song “Every Breath You Take.” During rehearsals, her coach Pharrell Williams encouraged her to connect with the song. “Go primal,” he said. And so she did.
Not only did Hannah nail the song vocally and make it her own (Adam Levine said he was jealous) but she looked spectacular doing it wearing a long flowing red gown. It was one of those rare performances that had Blake Shelton say “I agree with Adam.” The version Huston sang was such an original arrangement that Levine turned to Pharrell and asked, “Does that version exist?” He essentially wondered if someone else had covered The Police like that and he’d somehow missed it. Pharrell shook his head in wonder and credited The Voice band with the unique arrangement. It’ll be known as the Hannah Huston version now. Big question is now that we know she’ll be watching us, as the haunting lyric says, will we be watching Hannah too — standing in the winner’s circle? The Season 10 winner of The Voice will be announced Tuesday, May 24 at 8pm on NBC.
