It’s knockout round on Season 10 of The Voice. Pop star Miley Cyrus will serve as key advisor. She’s warming up for her new gig — Cyrus will replace Christina Aguilera as a coach on The Voice for Season 11. (Alicia Keys will replace Pharrell Williams.) Since the news broke, fans of The Voice are loudly voicing their disapproval of Cyrus being chosen for the show. On social media, many say they won’t watch with Cyrus on the show (“she has disgraced herself too many times” is one typical response). Many predict that ratings will go down.
Kay Gilchrist wrote on The Voice’s Facebook page: “Sad to see NBC put Miley Cyrus as coach!! We have watched with our kids but I refuse to let them think she is any kind of role model!! Bye.” Note: NBC aired a two-hour Miley Cyrus special – footage from her provocative Bangerz Tour in Europe – in 2014. The network has probably done its homework in hiring Cyrus — or else it just listened to Blake Shelton explain in a nutshell why Cyrus is so successful. The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
