There is good news for Space Jam fans who want to see LeBron James fly among the cartoon luminaries just as Michael Jordan did before him: the LeBron James + Warner Brothers partnership is healthy and ambitious. The two teams want to make beautiful things (and lots of money) together. The bad news for Space Jam fans is that ambition doesn’t really center on a Space Jam movie starring James. Not to say it won’t happen, but that’s not what it’s all about.
A Cleveland.com profile on LeBron James’ SpringHill Entertainment reveals that the company is hard at work developing lots of programming, but they’re still “looking for their first production with Warner.” SpringHill’s president Jamal Henderson says a Space Jam starring LeBron is “on the radar.” But James’ focus is on basketball. He clearly hopes to be playing for a championship into late June. His schedule makes it tough. And besides, as with anything to do with LeBron James, he wants to do things right. So for now space still belongs to Michael Jordan.
