Demi Lovato brought down the house when she sang her song “Stone Cold” on American Idol, and then contestant Sonika Vaid had to follow her. It’s not the first time Vaid has had to follow a superstar performance. Just last week, she had to follow fellow contestant La’Porsha Renae, whom guest judge Kelly Clarkson predicted would win.
After Lovato, Vaid performed Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone.” It’s the ultimate breakup song — it’s a story told by a bitter woman who’s moving on after a troubled relationship. After Vaid’s performance, Idol judge Keith Urban told Vaid: “I wanted more fire, more angry girlfriend.” In her package, Vaid confessed she’s never had a boyfriend. Harry Connick, Jr. suggested, “We need to find you one.” (When the camera turned on Vaid’s mother, she didn’t look happy with Connick’s suggestion.) American Idol airs Thursdays at 8pm on FOX.
