Brittany Kennell is originally from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, so she grew up with French as a second language. While she probably won’t sing in French on Season 10 of The Voice, she does for her single “Dans Le Silence.” Kennell says the song was initially written in English (as “Stillness”) but her producer Matt Gordon said something was missing. He suggested that she translate it to French and “see how that sounded.” As Kennell says, “It turned out to be magic.”
Kennell left home at the age of 19 to study songwriting at Berklee College of Music in Boston before moving to Music City, where she made her first full-length LP, Motions. The LP includes”Dans Le Silence” which is now available on iTunes. The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
