On The Rap Game episode “The Final Battle,” music producer Jermaine Dupri must decide which of the five young rappers on the show will get to sign with his So So Def Recordings. The kids face off in a rap battle and perform in front of industry stars including Da Brat.

Da Brat (born Shawntae Harris) is best known for her debut album Funkdafied (1994) which sold a million copies. She was the first female solo rap act to have a platinum-selling album. While still in high school – at the Joliet, Illinois charter school, Academy of Scholastic Achievement – Harris won a local rap contest sponsored by Yo! MTV Raps. The prize was meeting rap duo Kris Kross who introduced her to their producer, Dupri. Dupri signed her and stayed by her side when she was arrested twice for assault. Harris was released from prison in 2011 after completing her three-year sentence. In 2015, Harris appeared on the Season 2 finale of Empire as rapper Jezzy, one of Cookie’s friends from jail. The Rap Game airs Fridays at 10pm on Lifetime.
