Actress Nichelle Nichols is best known for her role as communications officer Lieutenant Uhura on Star Trek. The 83-year-old African-American woman has many interesting stories to tell. Regarding the first interracial kiss on American TV with her co-star William Shatner (Captain Kirk), she recalls Shatner saying, ‘I knew one day I’d get you in my arms.’ Nichols said the kiss took eight takes because Shatner kept saying (after the kiss), ‘Are you sure you got the right shot?’

Nichols also recalls the day she met Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Nichols said Dr. King told her: “Uhura is more than just a communications officer, she is a symbol. The work you are doing – you may not know how important it is – but we who are fighting the good fight, stop and watch you every Thursday night when you’re on.” Nichols will tell more fascinating stories on Oprah: Where Are They Now? (February 6) at 10pm on OWN.
