Before Kelly Clarkson brought the house — and herself — to joyful tears on American Idol singing a stirring version of “Piece by Piece” another woman utterly owned the Idol stage. That woman’s name is La’Porsha Renae, and she delivered the diamonds — as in Rihanna’s “Diamonds” (see below).
Clarkson sat in with the panel of Idol judges for the night, giving critiques to the contenders. She was the first Idol winner back in 2002 and this is the last season: whoever wins will be the last American Idol. It’s supposed to be suspenseful, but after La’Porsha’s performance Clarkson just said what everyone else is thinking. She looked right at La’Porsha and said: “You’re gonna win.” She added, “Every time you open your mouth to sing [you should just tell people]: you’re welcome.”
