Before going on at Politico Playbook, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel mentioned to host Mike Allen that he and his family would be spending the holidays in the newly opened Cuba. Allen opened the live event by telling everyone Emanuel’s plans, and then asked why. Emanuel replied, “Well, first of all, thanks for telling everyone what I’m going to do with my family.” Dead silence.
Emanuel went on to explain that it was in bad taste for Allen to bring a private conversation public. The Mayor went on very calmly to answer the question. Every year, Emanuel explained, the family travels outside of the US to expose their children to other cultures.
