During the Couples Therapy episode “Remembrance of Things Past,” during a group therapy session former Creed lead singer Scott Stapp reveals that his father left the family when he was five years old. After he left, “There were a number of individuals that came into my life that caused a tremendous amount of trauma,” says Stapp. “Abuse. I was beaten,” he explains. “And then it got sicker when religion was brought into it. He began to beat us in the name of God. He beat the demons out of us, in front of each other, naked.”

Stapp says he hasn’t seen his real father since he left the family. When Stapp was 18 he looked him up and “gave him a guilty trip.” Strapp says he’s trying now to meet him again because “I have a lot of questions.” Dr. Jenn offers to hold a session with Stapp and his father. Stapp says he thinks his father would agree to that. Couples Therapy airs Wednesdays at 10pm on VH1.
