While Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) aka Penguin is busy trying to fulfill a favor for Theo Galavan (James Frain), detectives Montoya and Allen from the Major Crimes Unit visit Oswald’s mother, Gertrud Kapelput. When asked if she knows if anyone who would want to hurt her son she gets very upset. “No, I would feel it,” she pleads. “A mother feels these things.” She then shares her theory that it must be a woman. “Some pent up slut has him in her clutch.” She admits her son is naive.
Mrs. Kapelput is portrayed by one of the greatest character actors on TV and film – Carol Kane. She’s best known for her role as Simka Dahblitz on Taxi, starring opposite the late great Andy Kaufman. She’s also had roles in the films Carnal Knowledge with Jack Nicholson and Candice Bergen, Dog Day Afternoon with Al Pacino, Annie Hall with Woody Allen and Diane Keaton, and the list goes on. Kane is currently starring in Tina Fey’s TV series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Lillian Kaushtupper). Gotham airs Mondays at 8pm on Fox.
