The new FOX show The Grinder has a lot of on-camera chemistry and star power. Rob Lowe plays Dean Sanderson, a conceited famous actor who plays a lawyer on TV. When his series ends, he goes home and works in the family law firm, where his little brother Stewart (Fred Savage) – who is a real life lawyer – works. Dean, who has never been to law school, thinks he has enough experience from his TV show to help out in court.

And then there’s their father, Dean Sanderson, Sr. He’s portrayed by the legendary actor William Devane. Devane starred in several great films including Marathon Man with Dustin Hoffman, Lawrence Olivier and Roy Scheider, and Alfred Hitchcock’s Family Plot with Karen Black and Bruce Dern. But Devane’s best known for his roles as Gregory Sumner on the nighttime soap opera Knots Landing and more recently, as President James Heller in 24. Fun fact about Devane: His father served as Franklin D. Roosevelt’s chauffeur when Roosevelt was Governor of New York! The Grinder premieres on Fox on September 29 at 8:30pm.
