Country girl Krista Hughes never expected to see Los Angeles. The young woman from West Virginia hadn’t been on a plane before flying out to The Voice‘s Blind Auditions. She sang Bonnie Raitt’s “Angel From Montgomery,” and got all of the judges to turn around, quickly.

Krista is appreciative of her mother (who had her when she was 14!) and her grandfather who bought Krista her first guitar in the little coal mining town that she’s from. Judge Adam Levine tried to sway her away from Blake Shelton — Levine told her the performance was flawless — but he really didn’t have a chance. Once she started talking with that twang, Shelton twanged back and recruited her on TeamBlake. Shelton said of Hughes: “We need her in country music. We need her on the show.” The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
