In dream casting (if you’re a nerd), Professor Charles Xavier and Harry Potter team up for all sorts of scientific and pseudo-scientific shenanigans in Victor Frankenstein. Even Sherlock Holmes’s nemesis Moriarty shows up. If you’re a geek, this is like a fantasy baseball team winning the World Series. The new twist on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein looks like it’s cribbing from Guy Ritchie’s steampunk Sherlock Holmes so expect the camp meter to go all the way to 11, and it seems to be a lot less earnest than the Kenneth Branagh-Robert de Niro outing from a few years back.
James McAvoy is the scientist obsessed with creating life. Marty Feldman Daniel Radcliffe is his assistant, Igor. Andrew Scott plays a policeman investigating disappearing corpses. Is one of those bodies Downtown Abbey‘s deceased Lady Sybil (Jessica Brown Findlay)? Victor Frankenstein opens in the U.S. this Thanksgiving. By coincidence, Mary Shelley will soon be getting the biopic treatment (twice).
