Jim Chanos, legendary hedge fund manager who bet profitably against Enron’s house of cards at the beginning of the century, is a happy guy. Why? Because everything is good, really good. Chanos told NPR that things in the US have never been better.
By Chanos’ logic, that means Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton — or anyone who can run on Obama’s record — should mop the floor with the GOP guy in 2016. (And unless Carly Fiorina runs like American Pharoah from here, the GOP nominee will be a guy.) With so many people seemingly disgruntled, how does Chanos arrive at his hunky-dory assessment? Here’s the formula that a Biden run would be built on: “The stock market near record highs, corporate profit at record highs, gas prices very low. We’re going to have mortgage rates very low, house prices at all-time highs. We’re going to have universal healthcare. We’re going to be at peace.” Chanos, who has (surprised?) raised money for Obama, says even his Republican friends would vote for Biden over any of the current GOP crop.
Here’s the long interview with Chanos. The subject of Biden’s run shows up 45 minutes in.
