Comic-Con International kicked off its mighty panel prowess with the Hunger Games gang — and the affection was large and mutual. Screening the high-energy trailer that culminates with Katniss Everdeen ordering “Turn your weapons to the Capitol!”, the panel basked in the glory of having created both an enduring legend and Hollywood blockbuster. The Hunger Games have taken in $2.3 billion so far worldwide.
It was a large panel. Jennifer Lawrence was the most luminous presence, of course. “I don’t think I’ll ever really say goodbye to Katniss. She’s become a part of me,” Lawrence said at one point. That’s great news for fans and producers alike, who together have a vested interest in keeping Katniss — and Lawrence, who’s 24 — around as long as possible. They hope she means it literally.
