The televised dance competiton So You Think You Can Dance is back on FOX for its 12th season. Host Cat Deeley returns with resident judges: Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo. This season, the show is leveling the field by segregating dancers by where they perfected their moves — on the stage or on the streets.
Every dancer who turns up for auditions in Memphis and Dallas has to pick a team for which they are auditioning — Team Stage (ballroom, tap, ballet, contemporary) or Team Street (hip hop, popping, breaking, animation). And then the judges decide if they advance to compete in Las Vegas. By the end of Vegas week, the Top 20 dancers – 10 on Team Stage, 10 on Team Street – will be chosen. Each team will have a captain to guide and mentor them: SYTYCD All-Stars Travis (Team Stage) and Twitch (Team Street). Then each week, one dancer from each team will be sent home based on America’s vote. The Season 12 premiere of So You Think You Can Dance will air Monday, June 1 at 8pm on Fox.
