Having served viewers an appetizer, an entree and a main course, NBC has decided that fans of Hannibal won’t be getting dessert, a cheese board, or any after-dinner drinks. The current third season of Dahmer’s Dinners, er, Hannibal will be the last … maybe. Although the Peacock Network is shutting down the kitchen, ravenous fans are craving more murder, mind-games and meat. A petition to save the show sprang up overnight, and already it has almost 35,000 signatures.

“The De Laurentiis Co., which co-produces the show, launched a #SaveHannibal social media campaign in congruence with a Change.org petition asking NBC to salvage the series,” reports the AV Club. The petition letter is short and simple: “What are you thinking? Renew Hannibal, NBC.” Online petitions to bring back canceled TV shows are nothing new, and they are seldom effective, but in the age of digital streaming, perhaps the cult series could find a new home on another platform. According to Variety, “producers Gaumont Intl. Television and Martha De Laurentiis of the De Laurentiis Co. are actively shopping the show to new buyers, ranging from digital outlets to cable channels.” Dr. Lecter may not want to hang up his kitchen knife just yet.
