TV personality Greg Gutfeld is promoting his new talk show on Fox News called The Greg Gutfeld Show. It premieres Sunday, May 31 at 10pm. It’s described by the network as “a show featuring parodies of current events, commentary on significant issues and interviews with newsmakers, culture critics and media personalities.” It’s made to compete with Last Week Tonight with John Oliver on HBO (Sundays at 11pm).
The Hollywood Reporter asked Gutfeld if he considered doing the show in front of a live audience (like Oliver and Oliver’s former boss Jon Stewart). Gutfeld said, “At some point, I think we’re going to experiment with it.” And then explained the work involved in a live show, “Your staff has to spend time finding people when they could be doing other things.” THR replied, “It’s not hard to lure people into a midtown TV studio.” Gutfeld agreed and said a live audience is “good for energy and instant feedback. But you know what? I don’t think I need any more energy at all.”
