On Law & Order: SVU, “a woman wants to recant her testimony in an incest case from when she was a child and free her father from prison,” but the judge won’t reopen the 17-year-old case. Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Amaro (Danny Pino) turn to retired Capt. Cragen for advice. The detective on the case, Ted McCormack, was from the Captain’s old precinct. His memories of McCormack, who liked to cut corners, and of the District Attorney Kenneth O’Dwyer, might help.
Cragen is portrayed by Dann Florek. He played the Captain in 331 episodes of the show before leaving “for good” in 2014. (He also played the Captain in the original Law & Order. He’s the only actor to appear in the pilots of two different Law & Order series.) You might also recognize Florek as Dave Meyer on the hit show from 1980s, LA Law.
