The Mindy Project ultimately wasn’t popular enough for big broadcaster Fox to go all in on a fourth season. But Hulu — yet another fresh name in the original programming business — will be more than happy to help Mindy Kaling navigate her treacherous (and very funny) world. Hulu’s not just backing Mindy by showing her old shows — Hulu has ordered a 26-episode Mindy Project Season 4. The move keeps Mindy Kaling’s funny/sad ads for Nationwide Insurance from being a prophecy. In the ads, Kaling is convinced no one can see her — that she’s “invisible.” Hulu steps in to make sure that’s not true.
Hulu can go where Fox can’t because Hulu knows where the Mindy fans are — they’ve been tuning into Mindy reruns on Hulu for years. Hulu acquired the rights to stream all the past episodes of The Mindy Project last year, and it will add the 26 original programming episodes to its already big slate of Mindy shows.
