Jennifer Love Hewitt has been portraying Kate Callahan on Criminal Minds this season. Turns out it was JLH’s first and last season on the show. She’s expecting her second child… just like Kate. (Kate has become the mother of her niece Meg since her sister died.) The writers of Criminal Minds decided “to write to the truth of it.”
Criminal Minds showrunner Erica Messer told Entertainment Weekly: “It’s a bittersweet idea of ‘life is full of choices and they define who you are.’ She makes the decision to leave the team for a while. It’s really lovely and real, not only because it was happening off-screen, but because I know those things happen in real life too.” Jennifer Love Hewitt is due in July, when Criminal Minds will go into production on season 11. Hewitt’s first child was a daughter, Autumn, she was born in November 2013.
