Did Will Ferrell and Kristen Wig successfully prank all of Hollywood this week? When news broke on April 1st that the two had secretly filmed a Lifetime movie, A Deadly Adoption, the report was taken seriously by the trade papers and we were all assured that this was not an April Fools’ Day joke. Well, now the movie has been canceled and we’re all very confused. “Apparently, Ferrell is so disheartened that the project’s existence leaked out that he’s willing to completely scrap it—despite the fact that the whole thing has supposedly been filmed already,” reports the AV Club. The Julian Assange-style leak has ruined it for Ferrell and Wiig. Transparency is so not Hollywood.
Of course, this latest development could be part of an elaborate ruse – perhaps the film will get released after all, especially as Lifetime is about to celebrate its 25th anniversary and could do with all the publicity it gets. “The original plan was probably to premiere the movie without telling anyone beforehand, but the news yesterday ruined that. Now, we’re willing to bet that Ferrell is saying he has given up on the whole thing just so they can still secretly premiere it with everyone thinking it has been canceled.” Ferrell and Wiig are both known for their pranks, so who knows? Of course, if you’re conspiracy theorist, you might think this whole thing is just part of Ferrell’s plan to distract people from hating Get Hard.
