All of the contestants on Dancing With the Stars have chosen a song that best represents the most memorable year in their lives. Some will be predictable and strange, like Suzanne Somers’ choice of the Three’s Company theme song by Dominik Hauser. But some are just fascinating. 70-year-old singer Patti LaBelle chose her own song, Dan Swit Me, which was a big hit on the dance floor in 1977. It was a memorable year because it was the year she released her first solo album, Patti LaBelle. (She used to be the lead singer of a band called Labelle.)
LaBelle and her Dancing With the Stars partner Artem Chigvintsev will perform a jazz number to the New Orleans-inspired song, which was written by four people including LaBelle’s then husband, Armstead Edwards, and Ray Parker, Jr. who plays guitar on the album and later wrote the theme song for Ghostbusters.
Here’s the chorus to “Dan Swit Me” from the Patti LaBelle album:
Come on and dance with me
I ain’t gonna wait all night
For you to dance with me, dance with me
Come on and dance with me
You make me feel alright
For you to dance with me, dance with me
