Derek Hough broke his toe and sprained his ankle last week so he won’t be able to dance on Dancing with the Stars. Fellow pro dancer Sasha Farber has stepped in to dance with Hough’s celeb partner, former Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin. Farber and Liukin, both born in Russia, known each other well. Sasha rehearses with Nastia over the weekends when Derek is in New York for his Radio City Hall show “New York Spring Spectacular.” If any of the other duos had to face an injury like this it might be devastating, but Farber and Liukin are a special case. Plus there’s that common Russian heritage–they have even more than the language of dance to share.

On season 17, Sasha danced with Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi. They made it pretty far – to week 7, exactly where Nastia Liukin is now. P.S. Sasha used to date fellow DWTS pro dancer Emma Slater but they broke up in December. DWTS is never boring. Tune in for more drama on Mondays at 8pm on ABC.
