Right before 2am, a desperate call was made to 911. From his home in Pinella, Florida, Bill Kyne yelled desperately into the phone: “My son just killed my wife.” And then a few minutes later, another call to 911 was made from the same location. “My dad’s trying to kill me. He killed my mom.”
When the police arrived they found Diane Kyne in her bedroom, strangled or smothered to death. She was 49-years-old. Her 23-year-old son, Kevin Kyne, told police that his stepfather Bill Kyne told him to go into his mother’s room, where she was already dead. Kevin said he ran from the house to get help and, according to Kevin, that’s when Bill jumped him. Kevin was accused of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. After serving four years in jail, his conviction was overturned on appeal. Kevin Kyne was found not guilty of the murder of his mother in February 2015. Kevin still says Bill did it, but Bill has never been charged with wrongdoing. Dateline NBC is reporting on the Kyne murder, investigation and the trial of Kevin Kyne on April 16 at 10pm.
