The Walt Disney Company is aggressive–nobody can have missed the company’s massive efforts to make itself ubiquitous. Disney has worked diligently and tirelessly to become nearly a right of passage in the idea of an American childhood. (And it has done pretty well overseas, too.) Have you seen a princess lately? Of course you have–that’s the legacy of Walt, far more than any cartoon mouse.
And video games and plush toys and theme parks and…it goes on and on. But the most powerful of all the Disney cultural penetration comes in the form of movies–from Fantasia to the Pirates of the Caribbean. But even all that history will have a hard time matching the frenetic next two years on the Disney calendar. Disney–well, Disney, Pixar and Marvel–will bring out 24 BIG movies in 24 months. They figure to jump off to a good start in May, with Avengers: Age of Ultron.
