This surreal exchange features the educated and thoroughly knowledgeable Dr. Patrick Moore trying to say that Monsanto’s Roundup® weed killer is safe for humans to drink. He must say this, because it tends to get into the water supply where it’s used. On the contrary, Moore says, you can drink a “quart” of the stuff and it won’t hurt you.
So he’s offered a glass by his host. After saying he’d drink it, Moore refuses for two reasons: he’s “not an idiot” and also because he’s “not stupid.” But the very apex of the absurdity is when Moore backs up his safety claim by saying he knows Roundup® isn’t a problem to drink because people “try to commit suicide with it” and they “fail regularly.” He later cut the interview short. But it wasn’t due to a lack of hospitality–the man had been offered a drink, after all. Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup® , is suspected of playing a part in rising cancer rates in Argentina. The company and Moore strongly deny any culpability.
